Plain concrete does the job, and it looks like it.
Pavers look good, but they're hundreds of separate pieces. Stamped concrete sits in between. It has a pattern and color like stone or brick, and it goes down as one poured slab.
It costs more than plain concrete, and it has downsides. Both are below.
How is stamped concrete made?
Stamped concrete starts as a normal pour, with the same base prep, forms and steel as any slab. The difference comes while it's still soft:
- Color goes in. It's either mixed into the concrete or worked into the surface.
- The pattern is pressed in. Stamping mats are set onto the fresh concrete to leave the texture and joint lines of stone, brick or tile.
- Joints are cut so the slab has a place to crack that the pattern can hide.
- It's cleaned and sealed. The sealer protects the color and brings it out.
You pick the pattern and color. Show us the look you want. We can do most requested patterns and colors, and if one isn't feasible, we'll tell you upfront and talk through the options.
Where does stamped concrete work?
- Patios. This is the most common place for it. For a plain slab, see concrete patios.
- Driveways. The same pour as a concrete driveway, with a pattern on top.
- Pool decks. Pool decks have their own finishes and cost ranges, so see pool decks.
- Walkways, sidewalks and steps. The same stamped finish can carry from the driveway or patio to the front door.
- An existing slab. If the concrete is solid, we can install a stamped overlay over it instead of a new pour. See resurfacing.
Want color without a pattern? See concrete staining.
What is the downside of stamped concrete?
It's a good finish, not a perfect one.
- It costs more than plain concrete. Color, stamping and extra labor add to the price.
- It still cracks. All concrete does. Joints cut into the pattern help it crack where you won't notice.
- It needs resealing. Sun and foot traffic wear the sealer down. How often depends on the sealer and the use.
- It can be slick when wet. A sealed surface can be slippery, especially near water. Ask about adding a slip-resistant additive to the sealer.
- Repairs are hard to hide. Matching the color and pattern of a patch years later is tricky.
- Dark colors get hot. In a Brevard summer, lighter colors stay cooler underfoot.
If any of those is a deal-breaker, plain or stained concrete may suit you better. We'll tell you if we think so.

Here's what moves your number:
- Size.
- Pattern. Some patterns take more work to stamp.
- Color. More colors cost more.
- Borders.
- Tear-out. Any old concrete that has to come out first.
What should you ask before comparing stamped concrete quotes? Ask each contractor about:
- the pattern and colors;
- the sealer;
- where the joints go;
- the slab's thickness and base.
Quotes built on different assumptions can't be compared. Tell us what you want on each point. We'll write it down and use it for your free quote, itemized if you'd like.
Frequently asked questions
Are these your prices?
No. They're published market estimates, and we list the source. Your actual price comes from a free estimate.
Does stamped concrete need to be sealed?
Yes. It's sealed after the pour, and the sealer has to be renewed over time to protect the color. How often depends on the sealer, the sun and the traffic. We reseal stamped concrete, including stamped concrete another company installed.
Is stamped concrete cheaper than pavers?
It depends on the pattern and the paver. Both work in Florida. Stamped concrete is one continuous slab. Pavers can be lifted and reset one at a time.
Stamped or stained?
Stamping adds a pattern and texture to new concrete. Staining adds color, not texture, and it works on concrete you already have. Some slabs get both.
How soon can I use it?
Industry guidance for new concrete is at least 24 hours before walking on it and 7 days before driving on it (Concrete Network). The sealer adds its own drying time. We'll confirm the timing for your job before we start.
Does rain delay the pour?
It can. Weather can affect concrete scheduling, and stamping needs the concrete at the right stage, not soaked.
