You pulled up the carpet or tile and found a concrete slab. Or you have a shop or office floor that's plain, dusty gray.
You could cover it again. Or you could make the concrete itself the floor.
That's polishing. There's nothing laid on top to peel, lift or grout. And if you've been asking around for someone local who does it, we do.
How is concrete polished?
Polishing is done with grinding machines, in steps, a lot like sanding wood with finer and finer paper.
- Grind. Coarse diamond tooling flattens the surface and takes off glue, paint and old sealer.
- Hone. Finer tooling smooths out the scratches from the grind.
- Harden. A liquid hardener (densifier) is usually applied so the surface takes a better polish.
- Polish. Finer and finer passes bring up the shine.
- Protect. A guard or sealer goes on to help resist stains.
How far the grind goes decides the look: from a smooth, mostly gray "cream" finish to one that shows the stone in the mix. We offer matte, satin and high-gloss finishes. The exact steps depend on your floor and the look you want.
Can my floor be polished?
Most sound concrete slabs can be. Polishing works with what's there, so it's worth knowing what shows through:
- Cracks. Polishing doesn't hide them. They can be filled, but the fill usually shows.
- Patches and old repairs. They polish differently from the concrete around them.
- Glue, paint and tack strip holes. The grind removes the surface layer, but marks can remain.
- Soft or badly damaged concrete. It may need repair first.
Want color? Stain can be added. See concrete staining. Garage floor? See concrete garage floors.
What are the downsides of polished concrete floors?
It's a good floor, not a perfect one.
- It's hard. Standing on it all day is tiring, and a dropped glass breaks. Rugs help.
- It can be slick when wet. Wipe up spills, and ask about slip resistance near doors.
- It shows the slab's history. Cracks and patches stay visible.
- It isn't soft or warm. In a Florida house that's often a plus. In a bedroom it may not be.
- It needs upkeep. Less than most floors, but the shine lasts longer with regular cleaning and the occasional re-polish in high-traffic areas.
If any of those is a deal-breaker, we'll tell you what may suit you better.
What do polished concrete floors cost?
These are published market estimates, not our prices. No Melbourne or Brevard figure is published, so the main figures are national.

Here's what moves your number:
- Prep. Glue, paint and old coatings take extra grinding.
- Size.
- Finish. A deeper grind and higher shine take more passes.
- Repairs. Cracks and patches that need filling first.
- Color. Stain or dye adds a step.

Frequently asked questions
Are these your prices?
No. They're published market estimates, and we list the source. Your actual price comes from a free estimate.
Do you do the polishing yourselves?
Yes. All our concrete work is done by our own crew. We don't outsource it.
Is polished concrete expensive?
It depends on the slab and the finish. Using the slab you already have means there's no new flooring material to buy, but prep and a high shine add passes. The cost section above shows the typical range.
How do I clean a polished concrete floor?
Dust-mop or vacuum, and damp-mop with a neutral cleaner. Skip harsh or acidic cleaners.
Polished or stained: what's the difference?
Polishing grinds the concrete itself to a smooth, shiny finish. Staining adds color and a sealer on top. They can be combined, so ask if you want both.
How long does it take?
It depends on the size, the prep and the finish. We'll confirm the timing for your job before we start.
